| Sales were better than expected for mid-July, and traders
welcomed the activity. Prices adjusted in both directions, but the
trend was predominantly upward. Even as some producers restarted
following downtime around the Fourth of July, others kept their output
reined in. This boosted order files at some mills, and forced some
buyers to scramble for coverage. Weather was a factor, with sweltering
temperatures limiting job site activity in the eastern half of the U.S

Structural panel sales were mixed. Sales of OSB dragged, and prices
were flat to down. Truckload sales out of warehouses showed the most
life; several traders observed that this action was steady to strong.
Trading in Southern Pine plywood was a rerun, as producers and
secondaries waded through another sluggish, uneventful week. Western
Fir plywood mills and secondaries reported more frequent spurts of
sales, sometimes outpacing production.
