| Production constraints and a
steady flow of fill-in orders gave mills enough business to extend order
files on framing lumber and lift quotes. Some producers pulled off the
market after files reached year-end shutdowns. Others continued booking
orders for January. Despite cold weather gripping key consuming areas,
distributors and contractor yards covered anticipated January needs.
Many wholesalers cited more upside potential than downside risk.

Panel market
Structural panel markets lacked energy. OSB sales were dull, and
most mills took a firm stance on pricing after booking into or beyond
their year-end shutdowns. A few Southern Pine plywood producers pushed
to fill order files for the remainder of the year, but most mills and
their customers skated through a week of limited activity. Firm or
higher mill prices belied a sluggish sales pace in western Fir plywood.
Mills raised quotes based on long order files and higher raw material
costs.
