Wood-based panel demand set to reach 80 mill. m3
Qian Xiaoyu, Deputy Director of China Forest Products Industry Association, forecast that China's demand for wood-based panel will reach 80 million m3 by 2010. Of the total, plywood, fiberboard, particle board and other wood-based panels will account for 32.5%, 32.5%, 16.3% and 18.7%, respectively. The forecast is based on the ongoing development of the wood-based panel industry.

CWCA sees continuing decline in flooring output
According to China Wood Circulation Association (CWCA), the output of China wooden flooring in 2005 was 290 million m2, down 3% from 2004. The decline was due to lower availability of timber raw materials, particularly for solid flooring. Local analysts predict that the output of solid flooring will continue to decline in 2006. 

China and Russia sign forestry cooperation scheme Jia Zhibang, Administrator of the State Forestry Administration, and the head of the Russian Federal Forestry Service recently signed the Sino-Russia Forestry Permanent Work Panel Scheme. The main objectives of the Panel are to strengthen Sino-Russia forestry cooperation and information exchange, solve issues between counterpart sectors and facilitate joint forestry development. The two sides will also exchange information on forest fire, tree pest and disease control, forest genetics and breeding, and illegal logging. 

Birch- and poplar-poplar ply have low yield rate due to small diameter and bad quality,
and are therefore more expensive than okoume-poplar ply.
