Furniture
and Parts MALAYSIA Proposal to limit furniture trade shows The Malaysian Cabinet have accepted a proposal by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities in July, to limit the number of furniture trade shows in the country to just one per year, beginning from 2006. Objections are now being raised by small and medium manufacturers which make up 80% of the country¡¯s furniture manufacturers. Concerns raised include the possibility of high participation fees being imposed by the organizers. The trade shows are critical to the manufacturers as they serve as trading floors by which the bulk of contracts are deliberated and executed. However, business rivalries and the lack of leadership within the private and public sectors contributed to a host of competing trade shows.
