Brazilian
exports of furniture grew well in the first ten months of the year and
totalled US$684.3 million an increase of 42% compared to the same period
in 2003.
In
the beginning of November, the Brazilian Association of Furniture
Industries (ABIMOVEL) organized a "Brazilian Furniture"
presentation, where Brazilian companies introduced their products to
Mexican consumers. The presentation, which was held in Mexico City and was
supported by the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (APEX) and the Chamber
of Commerce Mexico Brazil (CAMEBRA).
The
event was an opportunity to present the quality and diversity of Brazilian
furniture and it attracted potential buyers from all over Central America.
This
was the first event of this kind organized by ABIMOVEL and it reached the
goals previously planned by the association. The idea was basically to
highlight Brazilian products, something that cannot be done in other
furniture events, such as the Guadalajara Fair, Mexico's most important
furniture fair.
With
this success ABIMOVEL now intends to work with the Mexican government to
have import tariffs on Brazilian furniture reduced from the current 25% as
this would clearly make Brazilian furniture even more competitive on the
Mexican market.
