The coming into force on the 1st October 2004 of China's ban on the export of charcoal made from native timbers will impact restaurants in Japan which apparently consumed some 62,000 tons Chinese produced charcoal last year. Reports indicate that China has been supplying around eighty percent of the demand from restaurants in Japan for hard charcoal.
