Log Prices in the UK 

The UK DIY sector is reporting that sales over the long Easter weekend were excellent and on the timber side sales of decking have been strong but prices have remained steady.

However, traders are still cautious with their buying preferring little and often rather than committing to large orders.

The Bank of England kept interest rates unchanged at its last meeting which, say analysts, makes it even more likely that rates will go up next month.

There is a growing body of opinion in the UK that the housing market will correct soon and a collapse in prices of around 20% has been forecast unless the pace of price increases is not reigned in. A fall of this extent, if it came just before the election scheduled next year, could have a major impact on the outcome.

Woodworking Machinery Demand  

In other news, the demand for woodworking machinery in the UK market remains strong. This is mainly due to factors such as a lively housing sector and the strength of consumer spending. Therefore expectations are high for the next Woodmex, UK's trade exhibition for the woodworking industry scheduled October 10-13, 2004 at the NEC in Bimingham.

The last exhibition in 2002 was one of the most successful Woodmex editions ever so the organizers are planning to expand the exhibiting area, in order to provide more space for traditional exhibitors and also to allow for new cathegories of exhibitors.
