Merbok Hilir Group

The Merbok Hilir Group comprises of five subsidiary companies, Merbok MDF Sdn Bhd, Takeuchi MDF Sdn Bhd, Merbok Lanka Pvt Ltd, Merbok Hilir Resources Sdn. Bhd. and Merbok Adhesives Sdn. Bhd.

Merbok Hilir Group officially became the world's largest manufacturer of rubberwood Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) in 1996 when Takeuchi MDF Sdn. Bhd. and Merbok MDF Sdn. Bhd. joined forces. With an annual-rated production capacity in excess of 530,000m3, Merbok Hilir Group is the largest MDF manufacturer in South East Asia, representing 35% of Malaysian capacity and 6% of the South East Asian production capacity.

Takeuchi MDF began manufacturing MDF from rubberwood in 1989, a pioneer process and a first among MDF producers world-wide. The achievement was largely due to Mr. Hikozo Takeuchi, a Japanese businessman with a successful track record manufacturing thin particle board in Japan during the early 1980's. Takeuchi MDF has an installed capacity of 100,000m3 / annum.

Merbok MDF began production in 1994. Merbok MDF's manufacturing facilities occupy approximately 40 acres. The state-of-the-art 290,000 square foot mill has two Siempelkamp Contiroll continuous press lines capable of producing 250,000m3 of MDF per annum, equivalent to 50 twenty foot containers per day. The mill is amongst the largest in South East Asia.

Less than six years after setting up its second MDF mill, Merbok has completed the installation of its third plant ?its first outside Malaysia ?in Sri Lanka, in what is reportedly the second largest Malaysian investment in Sri Lanka. Merbok MDF Lanka's production capacity has rated an installed capacity of 180,000m3 / annum.

For 2005, the installed capacity of the Group will stands at 530,000m3 and as ever the Merbok Team will strive to have its actual output as close as possible to the maximum installed capacity.
